Luisa39
So, I went today to see an opera last night called The Girl of the Golden West (that's the English title, anyway) by Puccini. This is a dramatic opera, yet this production had a little comedy in it, which included sneezes from one of the bit characters, who's supposed to be a young American Indian maid. There was a scene where she had to keep out of the way so the soprano and tenor couple could meet in private, and she sneezed twice. One sneeze occurred offstage, the other onstage; they were of the high-pitched and "cute" half-stifle variety. I was NOT expecting this opera to have sneezes in it, though other operas (like The Barber of Seville) actually have sneezes specified in the stage directions.
